Modelling and Scenarios Working Group
The Modelling and Scenarios Working Group delivers insights to support the evolution of energy grids and the deployment of innovative grid technologies. Current models, while valuable, often face limitations in fully capturing the transformative potential of these technologies.
Our mission is to advocate for modelling approaches that integrate innovative grid solutions, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of the future energy landscape. By addressing challenges such as renewable energy integration, rising electricity demands, and the creation of a pan-European supergrid, we aim to provide actionable insights that reduce uncertainties and empower decision-makers to shape a smarter, more optimized energy future.
How does CurrENT do this?
- By collaborating with energy experts to publish white papers highlighting the benefits of designing future grid with innovative transmission and distribution technologies at the heart of them, such as ‘a Grid to decarbonise Europe’.
- By tracking and engaging with major long-term development plans, such as ENTSO-E’s Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), ONDPs (Offshore Network Development Plans) and National Grid Development Plans, we aim to ensure that the benefits of innovative grid technologies are included in the forward-looking models and to encourage pan-European grid planning for 2050, including offshore grids.
- By tracking and engaging with major high-level political initiatives, such as the North Seas Energy Cooperation, we aim at to promote a pan-European approach toward grid planning.
By promoting accurate and comprehensive modelling of innovative grid technologies, the Modelling and Scenarios Working Group supports the EU in achieving its 2040 climate targets and ensures the development of a resilient, pan-European decarbonized energy network by 2050.
